So, after the last experiment with different compositions got mixed reviews, here are some more traditional comps

Always appreciate any suggestions and criticisms. Feel free to edit and repost any if you feel so inclined!

1. Sanderling

2. Ruddy Turnstone

3. Willet

4. Dunlin (a bit tight on the framing, but I think it still works)

5. Northern Shoveler

Mitesh, I had a long reply drafted for yesterday's post and then somehow didn't get posted. So I'll leave that thread alone unless you want me to rethink and retype it all then I will. Instead for now I'll give this new thread a shot

1) Love this, great all around, low angle, good light, good details, good "action". No crits...sorry
2) Another beauty, if you could have asked him for about 5 degrees more head turn towards you then it would be perfect. Maybe a bit dark on the face but it is darker plumage than the other birds so may be ok.
3) Love it, maybe could try to show a bit more of the reflection to show where the feet would be as I mentioned in Tim's post the other day but actually that may ruin this shot to show too much of the reflection as I like it this way the more I look at it. Sometimes the rules must be broken!!
4) Love this (man I love everything I guess!!), would have loved to have seen a catchlight in the eye to give it that look that he was watching you

5) I would crop up from the bottom, and remove the OOF part and that would move the drake lower in the frame. Awesome colours and dark image but it works.

Yesterday my main crits that I had typed out and didn't post were to remove the OOF foreground in a few of the images. That was my only real crit that I remember from yesterday.

2. Raised shadows and blacks in LR by +25

3. Not an edit, but to show where the bird was in relation to the ice. So, no reflection and I cropped the shot in the OP to remove ice

5. Cropped the lower part of the frame

Good stuff, I like how 2 and 5 turned out. I now know for sure that I prefer your original of #3. You made the right choice on that one from the start. I just needed to see what it would look like.

Really nice set Mitesh...#1 is probably my favorite but I also really like the coy dunlin shot.

Hi Mitesh,

I'm stopping in only occasionally these days (trying not to feed my FM addiction), but I liked the thumbnail so much that I couldn't resist (in fact, I briefly reviewed your earlier post as well).

I think the Sanderling and Dunlin (1 and 4, respectively) in this set are in a class by themselves. Not only are the comps and processing perfect (although I agree that some may prefer a bit more room on 4), but the poses and DOF for those two shots work incredibly well together.

IMHO, the others are not quite at the same level; comps and processing are great but it would have been nice to have the Turnstone and Willet turned towards you a bit more, and while the light (and detail) on the Shoveler's head is fantastic, the background is a bit busy.

Overall I think the set is terrific; #1 and #4 seem exceptional.

Another very nice set Mitesh. The first two stand out for me - I think the white sand adds to the shots. The re-edits are very nice too, and do look even better ~ Ron
