Thanks BB, I just realized that I typed the wrong thing in the OP and I was actually referring to #5 as one of my top 3 shots so I'm glad everyone agrees. I've corrected that this AM.

So here's my .02c...#5 is outrageous! I would love to have that framed and printed....it just says so much to me and has such a joyful look to it...sort of like Arnold the Governator. and Danny DeVito in "Twins'.
I'm not lovin' the too oof right front foot on the first which is too bad because otherwise it is really great. You must have had razor thin dof to get the body so crisp but both right and left leg/foot oof.
Really like the second lizard as well maybe tone down the front oof brightness just a tad...not much at all

The first is with 100L at f/2.8 at very close to MFD, that gave razor thin DOF macro type shot.
Will try that on #2 as also Karl mentioned the brightness.
They are so tame, you can do anything you want, I was likely just kneeling in the sand!!
Thanks for crits, I've had a lot of discussion with Tim behind the scenes and trying to improve the overall critiques for 2014. I know you are already on board!!

These are all really nice Geoff, I'm still chuckling at that last I can almost here him say, "what, why is everyone laughing?"

1 The front half of the lizard is looking really nice, wonderful color and texture. I wonder if a different crop would balance it out better?
3,4 chopping off virtual limbs?
I would also put out that 1-3 look like they were all shot from too low an angle creating blurs that obscure. This may have been necessary and it certainly isn't all that serious but it does detract.

Your comments about ACR are interesting. It has

1) Will try as per Karl's suggestion also but the width is FF so that is why I couldn't give him more head room.
3/4) ...yes but does it bother you on this one??
Yes, I agree, I hate those OOF bottoms also, that was my main critiques recently in Mitesh's shots also. There is a point where we get too low sometimes.

When I open a 7D file into LR it looks much more saturated then most of my 5D3 and 1DX files. But remember LR is applying a process (usually Adobe Standard) to all images unless you change that. And I think that process (correct me if I'm wrong) may be different depending on the camera used?? But yes they overall appear that I don't have to touch Saturation slider where as with 5D3/1DX/1D4 I always bump it a few points.

Geoff,
Love all the shots but my only nit is that I feel they are all cropped to tight on the bottom.
Saying that, they're your images not mine and artistic license has no rules, it's what ever
ones preferences are.

Thanks Tim. I know, but none are cropped so that is my problem, they were actually all framed too tight in camera...I hope I have improved on this over the last 3 years.

To be more accurate, for those that don't know, Adobe Camera Raw is applying Adobe Standard, not LightRoom . For example the same thing happens when you open the file in Photoshop, because both Photoshop and LightRoom use the Adobe Camera Raw application. I do not know how files from different bodies are affected by that.

An amazing series, Geoff!
I agree with others about the last image: super fine, story-telling AND funny.
Getting low really works in many ways, and yet when it throws the bottom foreground WAY out of focus- I wonder if shooting from a few inches higher might have been better. Or not .

Yes, LR is using the same process as ACR but I actually don't have ACR installed as LR has it all built in. But you are right I believe that it is identical to ACR that runs to bring files into PS or Bridge. I also don't know if different bodies have different code lines within a given process (like Canon Neutral or Adobe Standard etc..).

Thanks Charlie....

I totally agree about the OOF foregrounds and I don't like them also and actually now when shooting at 600mm or longer I usually don't go any lower than about 1meter off the ground as at those long FLs you don't need to get super low to get the low perspective.

To be clear, LR doesn't use the same process as ACR, it uses ACR. ACR is an integral component of LR and PS. It's the same code with a slightly different UI.

To clarify my point, I was just saying that one doesn't have to download the program called ACR (current version 7.1) if you are using LR as it is built into the LR application 5.3 will contain ACR in it somewhere. That is all
