I usually prefer the reality of a color version- but I'm trying to figure out which images convert well.
For the next few posts- I'm going to explore the idea with some wild East African beasts.
Here's number one.
I'll do number two tomorrow.

Elephants and Rhinos make some of the best conversions to me Charlie, and I not going to touch your last comment. See - I can act like an adult - sorta ~ Ron

B&W looks nice. Good texture often translates well.

Somehow I knew Ron was going to have a difficult time with the soft pitch you threw him Charlie Keep us updated

I think Elephants tend to work well with B&W conversions, they really can be tricky in anything but the best light. Looking forward to... the next go around

Thanks Eric, Ron, Ted, Ken, Tim and Birdie.
Interesting that so many "bird shooters" prefer the B&W version.
I wonder if it's the brownish color of the elephant that subtly puts people off- because normally elephants are greyish... aren't they?
Yes, normally- but not always.
This one was the color we see- as were some others I photographed.
Although most I saw WERE grey.
Why the brown? Dunno. Maybe because in some locations the dirt was sorta reddish brown- and they take dust baths occasionally?
Or maybe their skin pigments simply vary from region to region? (You are what you eat.)
Anybody know?
Charlie
