As my winter vacation has been winding down, I've been focusing on Sabino Canyon. In fact, I'm going to head out and do at least another two days shooting before next week (that's the plan anyway). The light is great right now as the sun is setting so far south that the light shoots right up the canyon and illuminates any lingering fall foliage that still sits on some of the trees. It makes for some great light. And the moonless nights have made for some interesting night photography as well. Here are a few from Day One.
#1: This first one is a combination of two shots. One for the sky (30 sec to keep the star trails to a minimum), and one for the foreground. This is about an hour after sunset (maybe a bit more). It was pretty much pitch black. The cactus and foreground were light painted (via iPhone), and the mountains in the background are actually reflecting the city lights. I had to expose for several minutes at iso 6400 to get the mountains to really show up as anything other than a shadow on the sky. As an added benefit, either a satellite or a shooting star passed through the sky frame as I exposed it too, you can see that in the upper left of the frame.

#2: Another night shot. This was shot closer to sunset, and I just liked it in B&W (looks good in color to, but the B&W works for me)
