How do you like your 21mm compared to your other Zeiss lenses for landscapes?

Great for B&W conversions

I am in absolute awe. What did you use for B&W conversion here, it's really really nice.

Might have to add this lens too

Thanks, Matthew - Nik Silver Efex on this one, and all my B&Ws, with a little light Color Efex on the original before converting

Oh wonderful, I also use that for black and whites

Have you had a chance to compare the 35mm f/2 vs. f/1.4? If so, what's your opinion?

The f/2 is quite a bit cheaper and if results like that are attainable, I see no reason go for the 1.4.

I absolutely love that shot, I'm really tempted to buy it off you

Interesting that you put a medium format camera in this image, because it struck me that this is a very medium format looking image. I mean, if I had to judge whether this was a 35mm or 6x6 film image, I'd say it was 6x6. But it is digital. Any post processing?

I would say the Zf35/2 is a natural B&W photojournalists tool. But having experience with the ZF28/2 (not in B&W digital, though) I wonder if it isn't also. Or the 25/2.8 - they are all similar on film.

First off I don't consider myself a connoisseur of landscape lenses, so take my opinion with a grain of salt. To me the great thing about the 35/2 and 100/2 is the magical ability to isolate the background and the in-focus to out-of-focus transition. I know some folks use the 21 similarly but to me that's not the 21's strong suit, it's just a great sharp lens with great color and contrast. My other wide lens is Nikkor 17-35/2.8, which I think is still a good lens, and more practical for events. I haven't used the 21 enough to decide if it has a magical property. There is the another thread in the alt forum for ZF, ZE, ZM which is 996 pages at this point. I've spent months reading that thread and have blown away by the amazing landscapes taken with the 21, and wanted to try it. To me the 35 ZF has magic that the zoom doesn't and I CAN justify having the ZF35 and the zoom. I think in the long run I don't need both the 21 and the zoom. Someday I need to do A/B comps of the 21 and the zoom and decide which one to keep.

That's just the exceptional DR found on the D810 at 64 ISO and that beautiful Zeiss 100MP at work! Honestly all I did was import into CS6, pull the saturation all the way down and export. Full res version can be found here if you click on it (hopefully it works):

http://forums.beyond.ca/st2/decembers-quotpost-you-latest-photoquot-thread/showthread.php?s=&postid=4384149&highlight=D810#post4384149

The new improved live view on the D810 is so staggering I couldn't believe it when I first compared the two cameras. I had the D800 and D810 right beside each other on the table, both with 35mm focal lengths and yeah, just incredible the difference.

I might even get rid of my a couple AF lenses knowing just how easy manually focusing on this can be for some subjects.

I haven't tried the 1,4 vs. the 2,0 - the 1,4 was not launched when I bought the 2,0 and I didn't want to trade up as I didn't need the extra speed or bulk for what I use it for. I wasn't enamoured with the 35 on DX but fell in love with it on FX, even more when I started converting to B&W. I have lots of street shots with the 2/35 on my website - using my usual B&W conversion workflow, and the 2,0 does all I need and then some.

Thanks for the feedback. Wonderful website, the Sheikh Zayed Mosque is a stunning gallery Was that mainly with the 35/2?
