I will commend the OP for the excellent photos. However, I can't help but agree with Bill.
Everyday in nature someone with a camera doesn't "rush" (your original description) in and spook a predator into releasing it's prey. By that action you became a participant.
Had you "stalked" (your later description) properly you shouldn't have been noticed, or, at least, not before the hawk had administered a coup-de-grace. I wonder how much of the hawk's time and energy was wasted in trying to secure a meal only to release it to flee what he perceived to be a threat.
You furthered your participation for an hour keeping the hawk at bay until his prey recovered. Which, incidentally, you used to your advantage for the photos....Show more →
Thanks for your look and comment mak Perhaps my wording was not quite right rushed may not have been the right word to describe the situation .I am not sure what OP means so i cant comment on that .Mak we as "wildlife" photographers ( I assume you are one ) struggle with situations such as this.We spend hours sitting in dirt ,mud the rain the snow and all types of conditions, just for the oppertunity to witness a scene such as this.I also said i believe i MAY have saved the heron i have no idea if the heron got free by itself or if my presence made it drop the bird .I take exception to your inference that i made a hawk waste its time and energy.I am fairly certain that a hawk will do what it wants to when it wants to so i cannot understand why you made these comments but as i said many times i accept all comments good, bad, ugly and look forward to more from you
