Cold Cold Cold! Spent three hours in this river a few weeks back. Water every where lens frozen over and over and over. I feel very lucky to have gotten this shot. I focused bracketed about a hundred times there were frozen water spots everywhere. I really didn't think I would have any clean files to make this image possible. To my surprise there was a clean set with no spots

I hope you enjoy this image it was really a challenge getting to base of this falls this day the water was so high

The only way was with rope and frozen hands

6 shots for DOF, 2 shots for DR. Taken with Nikon D600, Nikon 14-24mm w/Polarizer.

Brian, the amount of suffering you endured will surely become worth it over the time you enjoy having made this image. Wondefrful work. I can't imagine standing in that water for any length of time.

Amazing and very creative! Is this Lewis River falls? How did you manage to get so many shots done in these conditions without freezing your fingers off?

Already commented on this elsewhere, but it's such a cool shot I can't help but do it again. Such a great perspective here, love the creativity and you handled the tough conditions brilliantly.

Nice job handling the sun coming through the trees. It really adds a good spot of extra interest in this frame.

Awesome shot Brian. I guess this is more exciting than that tulip farm :P

It sounds like a nightmare to shoot but you really came away with a winner here.

Very nicely done! My only nit would be the lack of separation between the foreground rock and the ice or rock behind it, but changing that would come at the cost of the longer icicle overlapping with the falls. Good call

I agree Tim I don't like that as well. i did the best I could being in that tight little spot. The problems were that if I moved left to separate the rocks there was a huge part of open sky that would have been a little distracting, Another problem was there was so much water flying around as soon as it hit the camera or lens it just turned into ice

It was a really tough place to get a composition comfortably. I am happy with the results

Yes Hienz this is Lower Lewis Falls, WA. My fingers did get super cold at one point I always carry two pairs of gloves one being fleece they warmed them up when I couldn't take it anymore

I was more concerned about being able to climb up the rope at the end the whole time, Trying to grip an icy rope with ice cold hands was the challenge.

Hey Brian,

Wow... super cool looking shot here! Worth the work to get it and process it.

I can imagine how cold you must have been as I have been shooting in 17 degree weather this last week in Colorado and Utah while shooting at stars. Though I didn't have to deal with water, which definitely added to cold can be very crazy.
