My son and I went out to shoot snowies yesterday, but what we encountered was not ideal. This guy was hung up in a barb wire fence by the wing. It looked like he had been there a while, becuz he was quite still. It took us probably 10 minutes to get the wing free from the barbs. We called Natural Resources, an officer came and took the bird. However, he said if it doesnt recover on its own ( ie the wings broken) they will put it down. Its not an endangered species.
With the invasion of the owls in southern climates its likely a story that is to be repeated over the winter.
Theres more info including video on my FB page if interested. If you can't access it let me know.
I'll be calling DNR tomorrow to get an update on the bird.

The hopeless hang up. It looked as if he had been picking away at the snagged area trying to free himself.

Closeup

The rescued bird awaiting transport. He was surprisingly calm as I sat with him for 40 minutes. But those eyes seemed to look right into my soul.

This is the same bird shot the previuos day by myself
