This is one that I shot about a month and a half ago. My wife and I built the dress the night before the model arrived.

Would love to hear your thoughts!

Leica M type 240 & Summilux 35mm f/1.4. Two Profoto lights, one with a 3'x4' gridded softbox, and a very understated kicker/rim on the other side with a 30º grid to control spill

Very cool idea. To me this shot highlights her throat (probably not what you were going for). Would love to see more poses, and I definitely think this is worth exploring again. FWIW

Cool concept. Reminds me of a chess piece. I too would like to see more poses or lighting. One thing that catches my eye is the symmetry if the dress and the asymmetry of the pose.

very cool! I think it would be stronger if her chin were down or if this were shot at a higher view point.

Superb idea, looks like a chess piece to me too and i love it.

I suppose there could have been an infinite number of ways to lit the model, i find this approach very good although it would have been interesting to see more of the top part of the head, perhaps with a little more rim light indeed.

The lump underneath the left elbow bothers me a little and somewhat breaks the overall smoothness of the curves

Also even though i love the black background i can't help imagine the floor with a few big white squares if it was indeed a chess piece the dress was intended to represent.

All and all i have to say this cool concept merits more exploration and seeing just one shot leaves me on my appetite for it is such a good idea.

You demonstrate in this picture a good control over your light and more importantly to me a lot of imagination and originality, nice of your wife to help you out like this, wish i had such a helping hand for my projects :-)

Job very well done Arka :-)

Thanks for your thoughts and feedback. Here's another pose I processed. Same tech (M240, 35 Lux, 2 lights gridded, with mainlight softboxed). We made some adjustments to the bottom (larger segment at the bottom)

Thoughts?

Ok i'll go first;

I love this one almost just as much as the 1st one. Certainly more interesting to see more details on top of the head. Everything is just as well done technically but the picture to me looses a bit of the Chess piece effect. It's just a tad less magical, perhaps because of the different posture of the model and the fact that she takes up a little more space in the composition. On the other hand in this composition i see more of a bold fashion statement. The dress is more obvious and although the model still looks a bit like a frozen statue she does look more human.

Personally i really don't mind seing and exposed woman's armpit but i know some people can't stand it. Must admit the first pose with the great wavy movement of the arms was really nice to look at.

Both excellent shots, hard to pick a fave :-)
