At some point one must stop being frivolous and come to grips with photography as a documentary art form. It seems I've been posting images that lack, how should I put it, a certain maturity. So here is my attempt at serious documentary photography of the highest order. These include many of my personal favorite cat. Enjoy these in your big easy chair with an adult beverage.

I, for one, enjoy all of your posts, Eric- even the adolescent ones ! Lots to like here, but how can I not pick that last one as the "winner" of the set!! Got a feeling he might have done more than pee when he saw that leopard there...

A great job of documenting what you saw through your lens. It is a lot more interesting that what I see through mine. 3, 4, 8 stand out for me. Why is that guy not watching the cat? I know I would be.

What is going on in #10?!! I forgot everything else when I saw that one! Very interesting. Are there any follow-up shots of coincidence? #1 is quite nice, # is gorgeous (ie. I'm jealous), The badger shot is a real honey and the spotted stuff is well....spot on. Don

First off I must say that crop on the Pygmy Geese held up incredibly well I couldn't remember getting close shots of them and then I looked at mine and those guys are out there! Super job on them. Don't know why you think my Snake Eagles are better, yours are awfully good. I have only processed a couple of birds so far and no eagles at that. The yawning tree teaser is a dandy, it may be up in the tree but the pose works so well The badgers score high marks for fact that there was so little light I have a very similar shot to 9, why I say that is how we both see that shot a bit differently. Not saying one is right or wrong, just different. Both work for me! The last is too funny! I don't think I saw that at the time. Even my wide shots missed that You should send that one in to WS

Killer set Eric, while I like your funny side, I'm loving the serious side!

Hi Eric,

6 and 9 are my picks and I'm fond of the first as well. The first seems a bit tilted to me.

We must all develop our own style and I’ve never had an issue with your documentary style. While we all can work on basics and bring up quality that way, it’s the artistic choices that we make that can have the largest impact. Think about what I said to you when we learned of the weather forecast for our shoot of the snowy owl.

“The gray day will produce some lovely soft light to work with and if we are lucky enough for the snow to start while we are there it will create a wonderful atmosphere to capture the owl in.” Many hear would be complaining of bad light yet I was excited about it as the best results are possible. The trick is to nail your exposures and you have been working on this and reporting success. Next you need to see pictures and its best if you can see them before you look through the view finder though many do quite well by scanning the area for imagers. Last you need to know how to process your images to get the most out of them. I like to do as much in camera as possible to save huge amounts of time in PP yet I’m quite skilled at Photoshop. The trick in processing is to have a method for dealing with the different things challenges you will face. I highly recommend the book “The Photoshop Book for Digital Photographers” by Scott Kelby. It is full of recipes to that will help you become competent in image editing. His sense of humor comes through the rather dry subject making it a more interesting read.

I feel you composition is fine; you capture some amazing moments and creatures. Learning to get a little more out of these captures will take you places.
