We were driving along the highway returning from the Sheep and Crane Festival in Faro Yukon back in May 2012. We had been skunked of seeing any sheep (except a few small dots in the distance) and the Sandies had flown over days earlier. As we were driving along, one of my eagle eyed passengers yells out "look something on the side...looks like a wolf?". So I start to brake and slow the car down but we were just coming around a big corner, as we came around the corner preparing to turn around and go find out what animal it was back there, we see a black bear strolling straight down the centre yellow line and a porcupine running across the highway straight in front of us. The porcupine made a run for it and didn't even get a chance to photograph him. The black bear sauntered over to the shoulder and I snapped off a few shots, but all the while wanting to get turned around and go back and see this "wolf". We got turned around and slowly drove back up the road scanning the shoulder for the mystery animal. Finally we saw it and literally none of us could contain ourselves. I shot these from my drivers side seat and out the passenger side window. It may have been my once in a lifetime chance to see this animal in the wild.

Another cat on my must see list. So you got skunked but not lynxed, I mean jinksed! So how many people put their cameras away at the end of a shoot and would have missed this completely....well done!

Sometimes I wonder where you come up with these lines Eric

But I enjoy them every time...I know you at least are taking the time to make an effort with the comments

Of course I always drive with the 5D3 and 100-400 around my neck....actually now it is the 1DX and 300 f/2.8

That's a great sighting and some decent shots considering the surroundings! Definitely a rarity on the forum!!!! Don

Geoff - your story is remarkable - when does one run into three wild life species in close proximity on a public road particularly in N.America?

I am also reminded to not put my equipment away - keep it for the unexpected. Tx for the lesson.

BTW - nice images under the circumstances.

This really is incredible Geoff, chances like this are once in a lifetime. Wow! What an opportunity and you surely made the best of it. I'm almost speechless looking at these. I KNOW this isn't a "lets go find a linx" type of shot, these guys are soooo anti human. Well done.

Almost reminds me of the Fisher my wife and I saw near Jasper, the difference is you got excellent shots, I saw a furry butt run off into the woods!

Nice set. I don't see them often on my road trips either. Nice for you to have had the opportunity to go back for the photos. Not the kind of cat you pursue through the woods.
