In between shooting two family sessions I squeezed in a dance recital that my oldest boy was in. Purely for my enjoyment. I knew I liked this shot the moment i took it and could see I was going to make it B&W.

The color version turned out better than I thought. So what do you prefer?

One of the things I don't like about the B&W, most of the details in the dress and arm connections is lost, would be nice if you could maintain the detail from the color into the B&W. What conversion process did you use?

Bud, Hope you don't mind but I went in real quick and converted the color using silver efex pro2, didn't do anything other then converting the file. So many options available, this is just one. But, I realize it's all in the eyes of the beholder. Just another option to consider. Either way, the original picture is beautiful

Hey mate,
Thanks for looking
I used silver efex but I used a custom setting that i use on my images...I guess I just wanted a very dramatic B&W.
Your one looks better
Here's another conversion using the Gorman Action

Thanks. Bud, like we were both saying. It all depends on what we want the final product to look like. That's why they make chocolate and vanilla ice cream. Your original picture is beautiful

I like the B&W. It does look much better with the details recovered in the dress.

I think we will all prefer different processing on this pic, it's only natural. I would like to see the highlights reigned in a bit more. My eye goes immediately to the hot spot on the dancer's forehead. I think, ideally, my eye would go to the form of the dancer instead of a hotspot on the forehead.

Still, it's a very nice shot. Great job!

I am all about b&w lately, but here i prefer the color. Its has nice subtle tones which i just find a little more pleasing. As for the the b&w i like the gorman action conversion.

I'm just a B&W guy. I don't know what a gorman action is, but I like it.

I prefer the b&w, but the highlights and shadows are bothering me some. The brightest part of the pic is her chest, and that's right where my eye goes. If this were my image, I'd tone down the highlights in that area a lot and then brighten up her face a bit so that's where the viewer looks first. Just my 2 cents.

Thanks for taking a look every one and for the suggestions.
Edited the photo again.
