@Jim, I see what your saying. I don't have a different comp from this day. I only took two as the light was quickly changing. The sun was beginning to come out from the clouds and causing harsh shadows and bad bright spots on the water. Add to it I was as wide as I can get at 17mm. I may try at another time to come back and do 5 or 6 vertical shots and stitch them together. That may provide a better perspective. Really though, I was just trying to get a quick comp together (it was one of the last frames I shot this day) and use that little scrub tree as a foreground element leading into the scene and to balance the "framing" of the falls, if that makes sense.
As this is a place I go to quite often, you have provided reason to try again and for that, I thank you.
