Well, I do that's who. After spending a day shooting snowys in Canada a couple of years back I hoped to get some sun to help get some feather detail. It was not to be but the light did lead to some wonderful moody shots. I wonder if you all will like the same ones I do best...I am curious...white

3 and 6 for me Eric. I'm a sucker for yawning snowies and I like the darker shrubbery around the owl in 6.

Great images. What does "flat light" actually mean? It's sad that Snowies are being shot...by guns...at an airport.

Flat light doesn't seem to affect the ability of this bird to look great. Excellent images Eric.

If you want an honest opinion......

It's kind of a toss up, 4 & 5 looks the most natural with the bird the most relaxed. The tighter crop of 6 highlights the vegetation that's in the way too much.

1 has too much room up top and to the right, that one should flow to the left.
2 looks to be fed up
3 has a lot going for it, I would like to see a bit more light on the eyes and some more detail. The crop seems too centered

Yeah, I'll stick with 4 & 5.

Oh gosh, another white owl At least it's not an eagle

#'s 1-2-3 are so soothing and just delightful, lazy and enticing Those colors and that light harmonize ever so nicely Eric!

The last three really 'suck' great Love the environment and the look back as well as gently falling snow flakes. I prefer #5 and #7 for the relaxed comp but sure can appreciate the nice subtle colors and details on #6!

That my friend is an excellent set of images

Thanks Geoff. I hope I get another chance at this guy with a little sunlight on its feathers.

As I understand it, flat light refers to light that renders an image dull or featureless with a lack of detail. I experience it mostly on these cloudy dull days. And yes they have been shooting owls to protect airliners from strikes...a movement is underway to have them trapped and relocated...I volunteered my backyard😀
Thanks for looking and commenting.

Very kind of you Ken...I may try to post some I took without the teleconverter as they show a bit more detail.

Thank you kind sir. I recognized the limitations that the shooting conditions allowed for but hey an owl is an owl. I really liked the shots in the grasses with a little snow falling. Maybe a bit more pp work to get them right but the setting was so nice.

These are so nice!! I really like them all. If you force me to pick favorites it will be hard to pick just one. The last 3 are my favorites. I love the complimentary vegetation . Of those 3 it would be the last one.

Some real beauties in this set, Eric! I especially like the juxtaposition of the dried vegetation, playing off the soft feathers of the Snowy.

Eric, Yes, getting some images of owls is better than nothing. But these are nice in any case. Wish we saw them down our way.

I concur with Tim - 4 & 5 are my pics and I think Tim's comments are valid. I like 5 for the owl looking into the picture and the context given around the bird.
