At just over 20,000 feet it is the highest mountain in North America.
And considering its height above its base- it's one of the tallest mountains in the world (much taller than Everest ).

Very nice... yes, the layers really make the image.

Actually, Everest is taller measured from sea-level. Mt McKinley is taller from base to summit..

Nice light and layers, Charlie. For us people at sea-level, I guess that means it's a longer climb, but more oxygen when we get to the top

Thanks for the comments, guys.
War72- what you say is correct- but it isn't what I said.
John- yep, you got my silly idea and added to it. You are right: there's a lot more oxygen on top of McKinley than on top of Everest, yet from McKinley's base you have to have to hike a lot further than if you hike from the base of Everest to its top .
But it's impossible to hike from the base to the top of the world's tallest mountain (see below) .
I was having some fun with the terminology , but I guess I should explain my statement:
"High" means elevation above sea level.
"Tall" means elevation above its base.
One of the volcanoes on the Big Island in Hawaii is about 30,000 feet above its base- and it's the tallest mountain in the world- but not the highest.
An NBA center is tall wherever he goes- but when he's in Badwater, Death Valley, he isn't high.
Conversely, a horse jockey may never be tall, but when he's on top of Everest, he IS high .

Must be impressive to see. You were lucky to get such a clear day. I've heard the mountain is in the clouds most of the time.
Excellent work Charlie.

Thanks, Rich.
Yes, Mt McKinley is often covered by clouds (it's so massive that it can generate its own climate).
Especially in summer- when visitors arrive.
I had the good fortune to work in Alaska for several summers. One of my jobs was driving highway tour buses. When I drove a tour past McKinley- and the mountain was "out," I stopped for some photography (for the clients- not for me ). Of course- I always carried my camera with a 70-210mm zoom lens .

Great pictures. Heading to Alaska this summer and would be lucky to get a shot like this.
