Really nice summary Dontshoot and awesome picture btw!
I'll pull the trigger as soon as I know that this kind of money is not better spend/saved somewhere else. If this will take over the role of my 70-200 in the studio and for portrait sessions, I will be very happy.
Probably going for the second hand VR1, I will still have a 70-200 as a backup if something goes wrong and NPS is wonderful in this part of the world , so getting a replacement within an hour or two is no problem.
Now just hope the seller didn't already sell it at that attractive price . (it's the first local 200 f/2.0 in 2 years)
Interesting the VR still commands close to it's original release price
My 1st one was $3699, my 2nd $3999. Same elements, same AF speed
as the VR II. Nano and an arguable stop of VR probably not worth the price
unless you're one of those guys who needs a 5 yr warranty to sleep at night.
Bought the vr i version about a year and a half ago , here at the b&s forum , the lens was spectacular. I wanted to fund my d4 , so I decided to sell. Was a big mistake. Start saving again and I bought the vr two actually a couple a days ago, did some shooting with it and can not see a difference what so ever. But having the peace of mind that I have the warranty makes me feel a lot better. Is it worth the extra $ to me ? yes , because repairs can get very expensive .
