I had the opportunity to hike down to the North Fork Falls above Emigrant Gap in the sierra foothills. I wanted to capture the waterfall before the big storm this weekend. It was indeed cold -- about 24 degrees -- and it was awesome to see the icicles around the moving water. I look forward to visiting again in the spring, when there's more color and a bigger flow.

really awesome image!
i love the ice and the moving water surrounded by that great rock.
the only thing that i would change is to get rid of some of the rock on the right side.
maybe go with a vertical comp and include more of the water/foreground.

great image!

Wow…
I like this a lot. There is something unique about the juxtaposition of the ice with the flowing blue water. I would love to have this setting for a landscape subject… very cool.

Killersnowman - I will try to do a different crop and see how it looks. I was trying to keep the crop to a common size (8x10) but perhaps if I go vertical I can make it work.

Humm, beautiful images. I would vote for the second cropped image. It is far better concentrated to the frozen, icicle draped falls nicely. Nice capture!

Beautiful image, thanks for braving the cold to capture it for sharing! I too like the crop better with less rock on the right side. That one really focuses on the waterfall!

That is beautiful and a great effort indeed

The contrast of colours between the deep blue green of the water and the surrounding earthen rocky landscape is very striking makes for an eye catching image. I am sure an enlarged version would be even more striking when the icicles become discernible.

Both are good, but the cropped version is fantastic! The lines really lead the viewer into the scene naturally. I bet your battery didn't last long with the cold and long exposure!
