About a month ago, I made my first ever trip to Zion National Park. All I can say is WOW! That place is amazing! Here are some of my favorite images from that trip.

And I apologize for a bit of promotion here, but the entire trip recap can be found on our blog at http://finchphoto.com/zion-national-park-a-photographic-journey/ Fair warning, it's a bit long so if you want, you can just scroll through and look at the 20 images from my trip. However, I have surprisingly found that several people have read it all the way through and seem to enjoy the description of each image.

*EDIT 12-7-13 Several members correctly mentioned a pretty severe blue hue to the whitewater in the image below, "Canyon Oasis." I have fixed this and uploaded the correction (which in turn randomly rearranged the order my images were in.) Thanks for the feedback!

#1 is really good. I think if you took some of the blue hues in the white highlights it would be even better.

-@johnnygator #1 was actually my favorite image from the trip. I have plans to print that one large. I will definitely go back over the water before printing though. Thanks for the critique; always helps having another set of eyes to check out everything! Sometimes I go a little blind after looking at my own images for too long.

Just awesome! I love #1(agree about toning down the blues in the water). Your subway composition is among the best I've seen. Very well done, Alan!

Hey Alan,

Cool shots here. I agree with the "white" water should look more white in #1, like it does in #2 for reference. My favorites here are #2 and #4.

You brought home some great Zion images.
My favorites are 3 and 4 because the clouds and the light in both really make the shots
I think you should tone down the sharpening a bit in #4
I like the last one a lot too - is that from the Kolob Canyon area?

Thanks for the feedback Bob! I still struggle a bit with getting the proper sharpening for web. And yes, the last one is from the Kolob Canyon area; it's the Double Arch Alcove at the end of the Taylor's Creek hike. That's such a peaceful part of the park!

Alan, I am so happy to see such a wonderful series of the shots from Zion and Bryce Canyon ( yes, I went through your travel blog ). Very impressive indeed. To be honest with you, I cannot decide which ones are my favorites, because they all look great! Keep posting, Alan.

If you are shooting digital, I'm pretty sure the same effect is achievable with a normal circular polarizer and adjusting the white balance. The only reason I have a warming polarizer is because I also shoot film and wanted some extra warmth when shooting in shaded areas. One tip if you do decide to go with the warming variety: never shoot in auto white balance. The camera will just cancel out the warming effect. Either take a custom WB before placing the polarizer on the lens, or use one of the presets. My first two images, when I used the warming CP, I had my camera set to "shade" WB.
