Pictures of Western Grebe chicks being fed fish and riding on their parents back. I had to crop a lot these pictures which resulted in some noise and lack of sharpness. Also bellow a video that shows Clark's and Western Grebes chicks being fed feathers. They eat feathers to prepare the stomach for the fish diet that will follow. Grebes eat exclusively fish and never leave the water except to walk on the nest that are built on water. Anatomically they can barely walk.
It was shot in HD and resized. I did a crop of the video because the birds were too far away and looked tiny in HD. I also added image stabilization during post since even on a sturdy tripod when using a long and and heavy 700mm there will be some camera shake. The image stabilization will decrease sharpness slightly.
OK, Bruno! Just amazing photos! I don't know why I didn't see what you saw until just recently. I've been to both sides of the Lake. ANyhow, I'll be looking again this year!!
I'll let you know if I see nesting activity a Hodges this year. Currently my focus is in cormorants. They are in breeding plumage. Imperial Beach is where you can see Pelagics which are awesome. I will post a few to the forum.
