35/2.8 on FF is not that much worse than 24/1.8 on NEX. It's not a pancake but it's quite small and lightweight, and focus pretty fast too.

How is the A7/r sensor at ISO 1600?

I'm tempted by it because its AF, it looks very good optically and its compact, but I really wish it were f/2.

For now though I will hold off until I see how the following lenses I already own perform on the A7:

Canon 40mm f/2.8 pancake (still not sure if this will AF with the Metabones III adapter)
CV 40 f/2 SL (which I expect to be excellent on the A7)
ZE 35 f/2 (this will be quite large on the A7 but I still expect to use it at times)
CZJ 35 2.4 (not nearly as good as the others optically but I still want to give it a go on the A7).

I was surprised and disappointed that they went with a 35mm f/2.8 rather than matching the 35mm f/2 from the well-regarded RX1. I would have purchased that, but I'm not as sure about buying an f/2.8 prime lens.

Building a complex lens approaching the performance of the RX1's 35/2 probably would mean a substantially larger product. While many of us would have bought such a lens, and paid up for it in price, size, and weight (guilty!) did Sony back off for reasons of competition either internal (RX1) or external - continual harping on Sony about "large" lenses? I'd have loved to have heard those design discussions.

I bought one because performance looks decent and I want a mix of AF and MF. As for speed, given I only had one RF lens faster than f/2.8 and all were more expensive than this one, a f/2.8 35 doesn't feel completely foreign.

I still think this 35/2.8 is a bit of a early adopter price gouging. Yes, it may perform brilliantly, but it should for that focal length and speed. I imagine we will see competitive third party offerings either in price or speed or both. I still haven't decided on this one, as I like the option of more subject separation with a 35 than 2.8 will give me. 2.0 is fine.

A small 35 with autofocus would be great. I want one, but still holding out. Maybe I will be swayed by reviews, but its getting close to the cost of a used X100s

I see Henry's in Canada is saying they have FE 35's available online, and Mississauga store is showing stock as well.

I really like the 24/1.8 on NEX. It's bigger and maybe slower to focus, but I love the look of the images--not perfect, but just interesting enough.
