Fantastic shot as all others have mentioned! If you don't mind I have a confusion and another question though if you're inclined to help me out:
1) I shoot astrophotography along with landscape shooting so I know about dark frames and stacking. You don't say it but I am assuming the dark frames are with the camera lens capped then?
2) I have tried my hand with star trails as well, but with stacked exposures could never really get the gaps out of the star trails. How did you accomplish that?
Thanks for any info/advice! This is a great and very inspirational shot!

1) yes. the dark frames were with the lens cap on.
2) this is an interesting question because all my other stacking efforts were done with a bit of different equipment and technique, with better and worse results. for this shot i used a wired cable release locked into the shooting position to get a sequence of shots up until i unlock the cable release the stop the exposure. this was very very convenient, in that it let me leave the camera and explore during the exposures. however it produced some larger gaps than i would have liked. in the past i have just used my wireless release and stayed around the camera and made sure to press the button furiously around the time of the next exposure. this actually produced much smaller (almost imperceptible) gaps. but i had to be paying close attention every 30secs.
i figured that maybe with the wired release it was waiting for the image to be written to the card before starting the next exposure. im not sure... it really shouldn't have made a difference,
in the end i used StarStaX with the "gap filling" mode to get the gaps out. although at 100% i can see where one exposure starts and another ends. i wasnt expecting to get such big gaps as ive never had that happen before.
thanks Mike!
