@oldrattler and Travis Rhoads: Iceland is other-worldly, but truly a candy store for photographers. . .something new and fantastic around every bend of the road.
@Pete -- thanks. I struggled to get an image to convey the massive scale of the lava fields. . .they go on for miles and in flat light it's hard get the detail to stand out. I found this to be the best solution -- telephoto to get some visual compression of the distance, relatively large aperture to get some isolation, and a focal point in the mid range. For scale, the big chunk of rock in the middle of this image is about 8-10 feet high.
