I'm really interested in this lens and 2x converter on my A7R. Your photos look great and I'm wonder how well the combo worked and focused? Did you use focus peaking - if so was it relatively accurate?

Thanks!

Martin - nice shot! Your bike?

Thanks Gary! Yes, my bike. We were supposed to have some sort of snowstorm yesterday so I changed to spiked tyres and took it for a ride. The ”storm” didn't do very much, but I had lots of grip on the icy roads.

With the FE35mm. Loving the AF speed of the A7r, in anything other than low light it is very quick, seems as fast as my 5DmkII (which may not be classed as a speed demon, but fast enough for me)...

JaKo excellent shots! I saw a picture of yours with A7R and the new Voigtlander 50 1.5. I own this lens and am interested in using it with the Sony A7. Is there a problem with your combination?

Just some quick snaps from this morning. The CV15 works pretty well on the A7 IMO, I wouldn't go peeping the corners, but it's more for urban shots than landscapes anyway, IMO.

The Summicron-M 28/2 does have a bit of color cast at f/2, and so does the CV15 at f/8 still, so these have had the flat-field plugin applied. No other PP.

CV15

28/2 at f/2 -- vignette caused by EFCS

28/8 at f/5.6 - I didn't quite get the focus right

Summicron-R 35/2 at f/5.6, got the focus better on this one

Edit: This is soooo much better than I ever got from the CV 35/1.2.

Martin,

I follow your blog but can’t find any direct comparison between Voigtländer 40/1, 4 Nokton and Voigtländer 40/2 Ultron SL-II. Do you still have access to both lenses and are able to snap few test images between these two on Sony A7?

Thank you ypras.
Not all all. I use it with Fotodiox-Pro adapter and it feels like a great walk around combo.

Thanks for that pragmatic opinion. I agree and think that lens is capable of doing very good in many situations.

And the older Canon FD 135mm f/2.5 SC

(I have a hard time choosing between these two FD 135s, they're both great in slightly different ways)

Peaking was on and set to low, but there wasn't enough contrast for it to come on. Those were handheld using magnification for focusing. The viewfinder is pretty darn good, but with this focal length I think you have to magnify.

It was also on my D800E one of the sharpest lenses and I will keep it for the A7R as long as Sony/Zeiss do not provide something better.

A7R with CV15 f/4.5 at f/8

This is a test of the APS-C Size Capture set to On for manual lens. So the 15mm functions like a 22mm lens with a fairly clean result easy to tweak in LR5. I am pretty happy with the result and I think this will work for me until I see a some new wide angle lenses designed for this camera.

These shots are taken with a G45 at f/5.6

This is a lens that truly shines WO at clos(er) distances. It's dirt cheap, fairly small and light; perfectly balanced on A7/R

Both images shot WO:
