Ok, I just had to come in here and pimp some of my recent favorites (and by recent, I mean from January :-). In fact, the one of the Horseshoe Bend dates back to 2011, shot with my good ol' D300.

By the way, please, allow me to introduce myself. My name is Michael Kormos, and I'm a portrait photographer based out of NYC, though landscapes have forever been my passion too (it's where I got started! Velvia 50 anyone?). I recently went from Cokin to Lee (mostly because, no one really made a filter system for the brilliant 14-24 Nikkor). I must say despite the hefty investment, these bad boys from England are totally worth it. Both of these were shot with the D800, Gitzo tripod, and GND filters.

Funny thing happened during the shots taken in Antelope Canyon. These were taken with the 24-70 with some outrageously long exposures (4 minutes I think). So long, in fact, that with the 24-70 pointed straight up, the lens itself would "slide" down from the 24mm setting, resulting in motion blur! It took me forever to figure out what was going on. Ultimately I was forced to shoot at a higher ISO in order to shorten exposure since I didn't have any gaffer tape on me to actually tape the zoom ring :-) Fun times, fun times.

Anyway, thanks for reading, and C&C is welcome! I look forward to spending some of my time here!

I really like your slot canyon shots. Nice and moody, while maintaining good detail throughout.

I could definitely do without the very strong red skies and blue bottoms in both landscape shots though. It almost looks like you used an actual RED/BLUE graduated filter in the field. Is that what it is? That would be unfortunate and difficult to remove.

I also appreciate that you added those bonus shots. I had no idea that the salt "hexagons" were that big. I thought they were 6-8" across at most having never been there.

Hi, Nice images. I too love GNDs! I have the Schneider/Lee system so they are smaller (100mm) than the one I see you using which looks humongous! much like the large cinema filters for use in matte boxes. I have the 2 stop and 3 stop grads. I have stacked them but generally the 3 stop is strong enough.

I too was surprised by the scale of the salt hexagons. They are big indeed!

The antelope canyon images are also very nice. Had no clue such long exposures were required.

The slot canyons and horseshoe shots are fantastic. Not really fan of the tint in #1. Looking forward to seeing more of your work around here.
