I shot a large number of photos at the Huntington Beach Pier late October this year. The sky was overcast but just opened up a little half hour before sunset. There were a number of other photographers there, all trying to catch the magic of the sunset light on the pier.

Maji,

great mood on this photo. I've been there when you hope the clouds would break and magic light beams would show and you get a wall of grey. At least you got some light out of there. You should wear a shirt that says "I'm from FM, are you". Maybe one of those guys next to you will say, hi

one little nit pick, there's a dark spot on the lower right hand corner. maybe lens filter holder or something.

Hey Maji,

This is very nice, I like the mood in it. And yes, HB always has a dozen or so photographers running around there along with dozens more with cell phones. It is a beautiful location and is quite popular for obvious reasons.

An overall successful image.
I particularly like your treatment of the S-curved water movement in the foreground. A nice touch.

I tried many exposures before I got that "S" curve. It indeed makes the image better than other similar exposures.

I like this shot a lot, with one suggestion. I like the composition and toning of the image, but knowing this location the red roof of Ruby's and the red shirts on the pier are way too hot. They look very unnatural in what is an otherwise very nice shot. Pull those back some and you'll have a winner here.

Hello Marji,

Bice shot with good composition. I don't mind of the red roof building, but I am wondering if you could expose a little bit longer to have the water flow gets softer like the sky. Is the greenish color of the sea.. there?

I am going to look at selectively desaturating the reds.

This was shot at f/16, ISO 100 and 1.6sec. I believe I used the Singh-Ray Vari ND/CPL filter, and that is a reason why a small portion of the thick filter still shows through. I think I reduced the light by 6-7 stops using that ND. The ambient light there was much stronger than what comes through in the image. Also, any more slowing would have erased those curves in the foreground which would have taken away from the image. I believe I have a few with longer exposures where the water is more milky and will post them later. The water color there is bluish green and turns greener as the sun gets closer to the horizon, at least that is what I saw.
