Today, Dan Heitman and I went out to Banff to shoot Castle Mountain.

Here are the best animals I shot on the way back.

First the lazy elk lying in the sun who would not even get up when I got closer.

I'm too quick; I got in before the 2nd batch were posted. Love this majestic specimen as he relaxes in the snow! Don

The young sheep grazing on grass with the snow is really a cute shot. Don

DonGut: I am a bit slow. He was a really big sleepy elk. He kept falling asleep as I took his picture and watched for a tree to hide behind. Glad you like his repose. And the little sheep grazing is my favorite I think too. Thanks for the feedback. Much appreciated. Scott

Cute little RMS... and impressive antlers on the sunbathing Elk. Nice series Scott.

The scariest animal - Dan on the river side.

As always - standing in front of me with that big red parka.

DonGut: You must be from Europe - they call elk moose and moose elk - I think. Thanks Don.

KirkB: Glad you like the series. It was a great day. Thanks for the feedback. Much appreciated. Scott

Good looking set Scott. I had a similar elk experience in Jasper a couple weeks ago. But he had his nose glued to a boulder (visually, not literally), which detracted quite a bit. Quite like the the pic of Don. Very nice light on the mountain.

Great set Scott. #3 with the tongue sticking out is my pick of the lot. Looks like you made good use of the full range of focal lengths on the 200-400. Nice. Thanks for sharing.

Geoff

PS. I noticed that you were in my area a week or so ago from your other thread in Landscapes. Glad you caught at least one light show for your efforts.

kmunroe: Glad you like the little sheep. He is about to experience a very tough winter. Thanks for the feedback. Much appreciated.

KCollett: It was hard to get the elk's picture. He would not move and there were lots of branches in the way and few trees to hide behind. Glad you like him. Thanks for the feedback. Much appreciated. Scott

morris: Glad you like the 1st and last. Thanks for the feedback. Much appreciated. Scott

He was just showing me whose boss. Sleeping while I shot and sticking his tongue out. I was in Whithorse. But waiting for the right forecast for weather, lack of moon and aurora is tough so I did not do much planning. Next time I will look you up for cofeee. Thanks for the feedback. Much appreciated. Fine job on these Scott, the Elk is outstanding, what nice sharp shots. I too am partial to the little sheep, what a cute bugger. It's hard to believe those little guys can get through the mountain winters, they seem to vulnerable.

thehotel; Glad you like the set. The other animals (grizzlies and moose) were hiding. Thanks for the feedback. Much appreciated. Scott

Tim Kuhn: The Elk was difficult. He was hanging out behind a whole bunch of trees and even though I got within 30' or so, he still kept falling asleep. But I did not want to get too close. Glad you like the little sheep. I hope he makes it through the winter. He looks pretty small for this time of year. He was cute. Thanks for the feedback. Much appreciated. Scott
