I'd love to see some pics with the 58 1.4 on your F6. You could also post them in the film thread. I have the Sigma 50 Art on my F6 (as well as 1.8G) so would like to see how the 58 looks on film.

Maybe thatís just the push I need to start scanning all my negs. 😁 I will try to do just that.

Huss,

I received two rolls back from the lab two weeks ago. One roll (portra 400) was shot on my F6 with this exact lens. The other roll (Lomo 800) shot on the same camera, but with the new Voigt 90/2.8 APO using the Nikon PK-13 extension tube. I've been too lazy to scan them, so like @sputnik above, this may just be the push to scan them this weekend.

The F6 & 58/1.4g combo was shot on the Sac State campus.

My neighbor/friend asked for some photos of his 1934 Pierce Arrow that will be going up for sale soon. Here is a set on the Df with the 58mm, my absolute favorite combo!

I wish more people would try this lens stopped down a bit - or even a lot. I quite like it for landscapes. Well done.

That's what makes this lens so special. Wide open with close subject distance its is very "dreamy/creamy" and can create images with sort of unique look and aura.
Stopped down beyond 2.8 it get's very sharp but still maintains a very pleasant bokeh.
While I don't use this lens too often - if I shoot portraits or people I *always* take it with me.

I'm very interested in this lens. Anyone here adapting a 58mm f/1.4 G on a full frame Z using the FTZ?

I'd be interested to hear feedback, particularly in relation to AF performance when adapted to mirrorless or any other downsides with this combination other than the additional heft and girth.

Using it with the FTZ is making this lens so much better than on DSLR. You get all the great image characteristics but not of the focus calibration issues. I really liked it on my DSLR-bodies, but using the larger apertures was always a gamble focusing wise. Now I can use it with Eye AF and not worrying. There will always be missed shots, but that goes with any lens/body combo with me behind the wheel. This is my favourite lens. Full stop.

I have used the lens on my Z7 with FTZ without any noticeable issue of AF, size and weight. In terms of AF, it's pretty accurate in my user cases, most of them are static portrait and landscape. The eye tracking works fine on Z7. But I am not using it for sports so I can't comment on the AF/tracking performance related to those. The focus accurate on Z7 is excellent, or maybe ever better than that on my D850, at least for my copy. The lens is pretty light, considering it's a f/1.4 lens. I don't feel it's heavy on Z7 with the FTZ adaptor.

Itís fantastic on the z6ii and z7. Like above, my use is static or slow moving subjects. While itís still not razor sharp at 1.4 like the 50 1.2S, itís rendering is so pleasing still. I have both lenses and if I had to sell one, it would not be the 58mm. It works great on the z cameras.

Many thanks to sputnik, Ocean2059 and urbanwild, your feedback is much appreciated. This is a lens that has been on my radar and top of my wishlist but I haven't owned a F mount camera for many years. My fear was when adapted for my Z bodies the AF would be further compromised but I'm delighted to hear that the performance actually improves significantly. Thanks again.

My latest 'character' acquisition, the Nikon AF-S 58mm f1.4 G lens, bought earlier this week. Both images shot yesterday on a Nikon Z7 using the FTZ adapter, the car in comparatively soft light the scene in harsh, contrasty light. I love that the bokeh balls are circular to the edges of the FX frame (no cat's eyes here) and have no discernable onion rings even when viewed at 100%. Also no distracting swirly bokeh. This lens is definitely a keeper!
