The family water buffalo and its dinner partner (animals).
Rice paddies of South China (vegetables).
Karst Mountains- limestone rock formations (mineral).
Small family plots and a water buffalo to do the heavy pulling. The daughter taking their family "tractor" out to eat. And make sure it doesn't eat any rice plants.
The limestone karst mountains consist of (animal remains) sedimentary rock that forms at the bottoms of oceans.
When the land slowly rose, the erosion gave us dramatic peaks to take a peek at. They're only a few hundred feet tall.
Finally- The American tour manager who told the Chinese guide to tell the Chinese driver to stop because a passenger wanted to step outside to take a photograph. After glaring at one tour member for a couple of minutes, she finally sighed and said, "Okay, Charlie, I'll step outside so that YOU can take pictures. But you do understand that I don't even HAVE a camera."
Being a tour guide is a lot harder than some realize .

Thanks Ken, Ron and Don (some really long names there).
The girl was okay with me taking her picture, and so she looked at me long enough so I could get a couple of shots.
Truthfully, back then- 25+ years ago- westerners were seldom seen up-close by the average Chinese. Especially way out in the country, when a big and fancy bus stops and a grinning, bearded fellow hops out and says "neehow" in such a way as to make a person laugh, and who then points a camera at you.
The girl was also curious about me.
Ron- I'd like to see you converted... errr... I mean see some of your Asian slides converted.
Like people around the world, visitors to China have to go to a zoo to see pandas.
Few Chinese have ever seen the magnificent beasts except in zoos in the biggest cities in China.

Well done Charlie.

The title had me though honestly as a friend of mine forwarded me a documentary video on a thing called "gutter oil". It was so traumatic for me to view on a utube link and so now certain things make me inquisitive. I didn't know what to expect but your image is way more soothing and put a smile on my face!

Thanks Kenny, Brian, Birdie, Trilce and Morris.
I led seven travel groups to China- and all of those itineraries visited Guilin and took the Li River half-day cruise through the Karst Mountains. A truly spectacular part of the world.
Yes, Birdie; instead of living a productive life- I've traveled .
