I get a strong sense of the feeling you have in these photos: they are less a portrait of a person than a state-of-mind, if that makes any sense. I appreciate the lack of literalism in that. You've used interesting framing in the first shot.
I feel that there are some technical issues holding the second shot back, most noticeably the haloing from your dodging and burning, and to a lesser extent the tilted horizon. I can't say if the latter issue is easily correctable because of the change in you're wife's geometry that would result.
