Along the road to N. Lake.
Stand of Aspen that had much of their leaves gone.
Liked the shadow lines, tree trunks & variegated light
Taken with a 4x5 view camera, T-Max @ 90mm, f64, s/s 2s, red filter

I like this quite a lot Dan. There's just something special using those silver halides.

Love it. I used to spend a lot of time 30 years ago with a Zone VI 4x5 outfit. I recently scanned a lot of those old negatives and transparencies with a flatbed scanner, and was pretty underwhelmed with the result.

What kind of scanner are you using, a drum? Yours are coming out so smooooooth.

Michael,
I have wanted to play w/ 4x5 for a few years and picked up the Toyo in the spring.
A lot of fun, frustration, but ultimately rewarding experiences.
I love seeing the negs (B&W only) come out of the dev tank.
I have an Epson 4990 flatbed scanner which was pretty good a few years back.
I have been scanning for about 3 years now, starting with MF first.
Noticed you are local. If you ever get down to San Jose, let me know and bring a few negs.
We could try some scans.

Thanks
Dan

Fred,
Yes the tones of a well exposed B&W negative are eye candy for me.
I like the results better than color converted B&W digital that I have done.
Thanks

Dan

The scanner I owned and used for the 4x5 scanning was an Epson Perfection V750-M Pro Scanner. It's a pretty high-end scanner for a flatbed. I sold it after scanning in the film I wanted to get digitized, but a contributor here had me send him one of my images of Bryce Canyon which he scanned on a drum scanner, and it works WAY better than my Epson did, but produced HUGE scans (10341x13008 pixels, 807MB files). I think his scanner is a Durst.

Did you use any tilt in this shot? I could never figure out how to focus in forests when I was shooting 4x5. The only conclusion I came to was to shift as needed for perspective and just stop down.

Slabshaft,

Ben Horne gave me this tip.
Focus on the near object(s), then tilt til scene is equally out of focus
This part seems subjective ("what is equal OOF") but in these scenes it was only a 4-8 deg. Then refocus.
I also used f64.

Thanks
Dan
