Why don' t I see images, landscapes, form East coast? Florida and all the way up to Canada?
I am from the West and would like to see some from the Atlantic coast!

I moved from the east coast to Oregon - Once in a while you see some pop up, but to be honest, there is a night and day difference in the 2 coast beauty wise - at least as far as I am concerned.

I was wondering the same thing. I think it is because waking up for sunrise is a lot harder then staying out for sunset

Nugeny,
I saw some great fall posts from Vermont,Maine..upper Atlantic states but as far as down here in the mid-Atlantic(Maryland,Va,Pa..) the leaves are just starting to change.

That could be a reason.(?)

Plus , this is just my opinion from living in Western Md mtns, we don't seem to get the brilliant colors like up North(reds,oranges...) or the "aspen like" contrasts as you in the west do.

I would hope in the next few weeks more from this area will begin to appear for Fall colors but I have seen many landscapes in the 10+ years here on FM, from any season.
I know I have posted some if not many.

Plus with the government shut down, the leaves are scared to change or they will be taxed!!!

Meanwhile you guys keep us East-coasters salivating!!

That is why there are so many waterfall shots from East of the Rocky Mountains. Great landscape photo-ops are few and far between in the east.
I have to admit I wish I was at Babcock State park in WV right now.

mea culpa.

I usually don't focus on landscapes on the east coast, only when on vacation out west.

I really don't do enough exploring in my own back yard. I have been focusing on birding lately in nearby refuges when I do get out. I will arrive often at dawn and am awestruck by their beauty but keep driving to get good light for the wildlife.

I posted this sunset image this summer. Nothing dramatic like we can see with those younger mountain ranges out west and great dark skies at night.

Four years ago when I retired, I moved from California, where I'd lived for all of my 64 years except for most of the time I was in the Air Force, to Virginia. I did not move here for the geography or the climate!

I haven't seen much of the east, but I'm totally unimpressed with what I've seen. The rivers are not picturesque at all, and what they call mountains are - well, let's just draw the curtain of charity over that subject. I have seen, I will readily acknowledge, some really good fall colors; especially two years ago. Last year was not very good. I don't know yet about this year; I'm hoping things will not just go from green straight to brown.

But for inspiring landscape geology, I'd stay west of the Great Plains.

Up in northern PA, the leaves have already changed (as I was up there last weekend, and the color was beautiful). I live in the southern part of the state, and like Dan said, the colors are just starting to change.

I love to shoot out west, but there are also good opportunities east of the Mississippi. Forget most of Florida, except for the Keys and Everglades (and a very few other spots). However, many of the states have mountains, streams and waterfalls. OK, not the Rockies, but still scenic. NC, TN, WV, NH, VT, ME and NY all have great scenery, and others can be very good, as well. Some mid-western states also have plenty to shoot.

I guess sea oat sunset shots at Ft. Pickens don't count? :-). And you do see the occasional Maine and New England photos.

I've lived in Maryland my whole life and after just recently returning from 8 months spent primarily in the southwest and west coast I can in fact confirm that the west is where it's at for landscapes. The east does have it's charm in certain areas but it's fewer and farther between. First shot here is from Rhode Island, second is from South Carolina. After Christmas my wife and I are planning on just heading back out west, hopefully finding jobs, and spending the next few years out that way

I live in North Carolina, and on the coast the humidity is horrific (down South at least), making it tough to get nice seascapes. It's possible, but with early morning 30 seconds exposures, the lens just gets fogged up. I took a trip to CA recently and no humidity around the beaches. Must be nice.

I would take issue with that generalization. In many places it's not as dramatic as some places out west, but to say the entire coast lacks inspiring landscape geology is an incredible over generalization. Upstate New York has some fantastic landscape opportunities in the Catskills and Adirondacks. The Maine coast is among the most dramatic coastlines anywhere. Maybe the opportunities are not as obvious as Yosemite Valley or the Grand Canyon, but they are certainly there. You say you've moved to Virginia- have you visited the Shenandoah Valley? How much of the east coast have you actually seen? If you haven't looked all that far, you're missing out.

I wish Jose Suro still posted around here. His Florida beachscapes were always some of my favorites regardless of coast.

Here are a couple from my trip to the Smokies earlier this year. I'm just getting into landscapes having been more focused on bird photography. Both of these are sunrises from Clingman's Dome. Kind of the classic Smokies sunrise shot over the mountaintops but wanted to give it a go to see what I could do.

It's because most of the members of this forum live out West!

Don't get me wrong, parts of the East are very beautiful. But the Western United States is one of the most beautiful places in the world.

To some extent there are less of the sweeping overlook/ragged coastline sort here than found out west and that sort of photo seems to go over by far the best in this particular forum. I love forest interior shots of any sort myself. Anyway less of the dramatic sweeping overlook sort of stuff here although in certain parts of the Appalachians/Adirondacks and such there are some chances for that sort for sure; maybe a hint of the rugged coast if you get up into Maine but it's not so much that style coast on this side, although it can be beautiful too in its way); it's actually probably easier though to see unlogged looking hillsides going on forever in the Adirondacks these days than out West with all that has been done to the West in recent times)

It is fall foliage season though so that should've had some posts going. I didn't get to VT this year myself though and locally it's only just entered peak.

There are beautiful woods and forest and craggy interior forest terrain.

I live in MA and my wife is from CA, so everytime I go to CA, I wonder why they call them mountains in the New England area. I did however make my way up the coast and into Nova Scotia, and up there yes they do have some beautiful landscapes. Maine does as well, you do have to do a little searching to find them though.
As the Doors have said "the west is the best" and there not kidding;where else can you go from Ski country to high mtn lakes, to deserts, and the ocean as well. Then theres all the wildlife as well. You have it all.
Then again isn't the grass always greener on the other side ? We do have some mighty nice seascapes here, as well as the beautiful fall colors, so right now where in the zone.
So shake a tailfeather, and get out and see them !

I have plenty of east coast images that I have posted here before. While I agree the west is more dramatic, the east coast has its own charm and beauty. See links below.
