p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Bwindi Impenetrable Forest

I was thinking that there are some places that evoke a special feel just by what they are called. Places like the Amazon, the Yukon, Borneo, and Belgian Congo some that quickly come to mind....for me, the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest has that connotation. These photos taken a few years ago show just how difficult it is to get decent shots of mountain gorillas. And this is AFTER the trackers have used machetes to clear the way.

Great shots of the Gorillas! I really like your B&W on #7.
I'm going to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest in three weeks and can't wait to see them in person.

Was the 70-200 your most used lens once you were with the gorillas? Any other suggestions/tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your timely post, for me anyway.

Some great shots Eric, the one in the tree is wonderful....really shows the surrounding area. The third and the last are great too...but nothing wrong with any of them.

Thanks so much Ken. The experience was wonderful and the photography at times a real challenge. I'm not sure I expected they would get so vertical...pretty cool to see little ones climbing up the vines with little or no effort.

Thanks Brian...it is very different watching primates and especially ones with the family bonds of gorillas....and because you are on foot their is always a little anxiety when a 400+ male decides to come within arms length.

Nice set Eric,

It brought back very good memories of my own trip there back in 2010. As you note, it is a very special place.

Anyone going to Uganda should also try and get to the Kyambura (aka Chambura) Gorge in my - I had a terrific visit there with the chimp's.

I know primates are not your favorite subjects but thee ability to be so close to such amazing animals is very special. I would not say they were wary in the least. For the most part they went on as if we weren't there. Almost more than anywhere I've been photography of these guys is really hit or miss depending on how deep in the foliage they are found.
Thanks Tim!

Thanks David...a very different experience than driving around in a vehicle all day looking for cats and stuff. You do work a bit to get these shots.
