Are these severe crops? They look a little soft, but I really enjoyed seeing the carolina variant of the chickadee. I've only ever seen the black caps.

Don't remember exactly but defintely a heavy crop...I will check the original file tonight. Thanks!

Difficult to tell difference from the Black Capped. Usually browner overall, with more orangish on sides, mostly white nape, black bib bigger and more ragged in corners, more white edging on wings, and song and calls are different. I have not seen or heard of any reported sightings of Black Capped in our area but the Carolina is abundant.

Added the un-cropped file for #1 just resized and converted to jpg. I think Ted was correct that these submissions are not quiet in focus. Additionally, these were taken hand-held so a mono or tri-pod might have helped.

Yes they are soft but I kinda liked the diffused look. Best I can remember they were all taken on an overcast day in the shade. Maybe I should have used some fill but I am trying to avoid doing that as much as possible. Thanks for taking time to comment and I do appreciate your observation.
