p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Remote Canadian Rockies Landscapes - Recondite Peak

My recent trip to Mount Robson produced some great Rockies mountain vistas but I've done some other pretty remote trips this year that you may be interested in.

One of the most remote trips I did was into Recondite Peak. This peak involves almost 40km of approach, we never saw the mountain until hiking over 36km! The first 30km of approach were on a pretty good trail but after that it was bushwhacking and route finding to our camp for the night. You can read about that trip here.

This remote valley was incredible! Waterfalls cascaded down from glaciated summits around us as the sun began its slow descent in the west (behind me on this photo).

We bivied (camped) near this gorgeous alpine tarn and this is the color we got to wake up to. Not a bad breakfast view!

Near the summit of Recondite, a storm is blowing in. Can you spot the climber in the lower right? The striking peak with the glacier is Augusta Peak.

At the summit we were enveloped by clouds and snow. This is a shot I managed to get during a brief break in the weather. Note the rainbow on the right?

Thanks for looking!

Hey Vern,

How cool! That is one long approach though! #2 and 3 are my favorites.

Not as impactful as your other series but these are very nice too! Makes you feel like you are right there!

These are from last year - but the memories are strong! I'm hoping to get out to some pretty wild places again this year, I'll be sure to post some landscapes then. Thanks for the comments.

Great series Vern. Looks like a really fun trek and beautiful scenery.
The first one would look better with the sky evened up a little IMHO as there is much darker area near the middle. Did you use a CP? Dave

Very nice set Vern! Glad you were doing the hiking and carrying the gear. The rewards were well worth the effort.

Stunning photos Vern. I REALLY like #1 but wished there was a little less sky. A screen crop just below the big puffy clouds is more appealing to me and works great as a wide panorama. Either way, great stuff!

Did you get any more perspectives of #2?

Thank you so much for sharing this series. I've past the age where I could do any kind of trekking like this and I'm living vicariously through younger folks photos. The first one is my favorite, I almost feel like I'm there! Now if I could only smell the fresh mountain air

Thanks Scott. I did not get other shots of #2 because we were in a hurry to start climbing. The clouds were already rolling in and we were 40km from the parking lot so we really didn't want to miss bagging this peak! That's the only issue with taking photos on a climbing trip - the climbing takes precedence!

I also like your idea of cropping #1.

Thx - most people miss the climber on the cliff on the extreme righthand side of the photo. This adds a sense of scale to the pic.
