p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Mill Canyon Ridge fall color

Here are a couple from yesterday morning up on Mill Canyon Ridge with a view toward Mt Timpanogos.

The first is before the sun came over the horizon and the second was towards the end of the show when the mountain and some trees were lit up but the clouds were past prime. I always have a hard to choosing which I prefer.

This is probably my last trip to this spot this year, the colors were peak and I can't get there again before next week.

Number two for me, I like the color of the hill side to the right and the red's in the mountains. But those clouds in #1 are nice!

How far apart were the two images taken? It looks like there was wasn't much wind judging by the clouds and the sun.

The first was at 7:21AM. the second at 7:35AM. Official sunrise was 7:30AM, but some light was touching the peak at 7:27AM.

I wish I could have had those clouds behind the mountain so that I could have framed tighter, but I did not want to exclude the mountain or the clouds so I had to go fairly wide.

Some may be put off by the foreground grass, but I really like that texture and usually attempt to include some. It was windy, maybe 8-10 MPH, but I timed the shots between gusts.

Liking #2 also. Maybe you could blend #1's clouds on #2?

It would be easy, but I prefer not to do it. These shots are pretty close to what I saw at the time. Cloud color and mountain/foreground color are really rare at the same time. It requires reflected/filtered light from some clouds behind the scene and at the prefect angle.

Edit,

Here is a shot taken between the two and a bit tighter.
