My passion is wildlife photography, but because this was a friend of my spouse, I took a few photos.

im really not too good with the poses, so I kinda just didn't say much, an my wife helped for the brick wall shot idea, the rest I kind of helped and just let whatever happen happen. hah

comments and suggestions are welcome. although I don't do it much, if any family or friends needs some photos taken I could use the tips.

gave her a cd of about 100 edited images, with about 30 or so top picks and maybe 10 top top picks.

She doesn't look that happy in any of the pictures she's not smiling in. She looks very morbid and sad. But when she does smile it's just braces. I would edit it out if you could or she doesn't like that. Otherwise the pictures are great. The wall in 10 is a bit funky too.

thanks, I will work on that next time. see if I can get different face expressions without smiling. I did edit out the braces in one photo that she wanted.

I like the compositions and technique. The poses could use some work. Good use of shallow dof overall. The light on the last shot is awesome, would like to see more of that. I really like the setting/background of #1 but the pose is a bit sad/bad mood. All in all this is a tough subject and I would not deliver any images without some amount of retouching to provide a more flattering skin/look overall. I would ease up on the clarity slider at the very least and desat a bit some of the more harshly lit scenes. You did some b&w which is a good idea. Color is tough when you don't have much control.

I think I need to work on my editing technique if I plan to do more of this. I am usually trying to bring out detail and sharpness in objects or faces in wildlife. different techniques needed. thanks.

here are a couple more of the areas you asked about. light was just getting good at the dog shot, but that was the very end, she had somewhere to be. I would have much rather have not shot at most at 4pm on a sunny long summer day...

In #1 shot and the 2nd 'added' shot (unnumbered), you leave out the bottom of the dress while including lots of space over her head. In both shots, the space over her head includes lots of dark foliage that would look better cropped away. Cover the top or "scroll" it away to see if you agree.

You don't always have to show the bottom of the dress. Sometimes it looks like it should be there (as mentioned above) and other times it doesn't seem to be missed (like in #3 & #6)

I also think the second image is tops here. But I can't help wonder ...where's the groom?

Interesting shoot. The photos are all nicely framed, lighted and angled. She looks great and the backgrounds are solidly good. Exposures are good. Even the cropping works. But they lack a very important ingredient for people photos. And that is the interaction with the photographer. Not saying much just doesn't work. The photographer has to talk up the subject. Get them to smile, feel comfortable, be beautiful. The photographer has to "sell" the subject on them looking good. Posing. Lights, camera, action. Saying things like: ok turn a little, that's it, looks great. oh yes, perfect, etc, etc. Just like one would image a movie director. As an art director, I have been on many sets and talking up the subjects always brought better shots. Getting silly. Saying things one would never say with a straight face. Using words like fantastic and perfect, oh yes and bring it to the camera. Yes, yes. And mean it. And fit what most subjects think of as a professional photographer. The persona.THE PHOTOGRAPHER. No matter if it's for pay or play. Give them a special experience. Flex the ego at little or at least pretend. Fake it to make it. Then the photos will be brilliant.
