I have arranged for the Utah photo trip and been anticipating a good scenery even in my dream.
And bang! this US Government Shutdown!! Obama, Boehner, & Reid !

Now I would have to avoid all those National Parks of Utah.. I am not sure it is good or bad in the end.

Anyway, I would like to have good information from all of you as to where to go, the current fall condition, etc.

My flight is into St George, UT, and want to cover the areas like Zion, Bryce, Capitol Reef, and Moab.

Yes.. I know I will have to go around these area.

Much appreciated.

Kee

My understanding is that a number of the non-park areas, including vast swaths of Grand Staircase-Escalante, are accessible. You might catch some beautiful lowland color including cottonwoods and more in these areas and others like them.

With luck, the closures might be resolved by the time of your trip. Let's hope - and do write your congressional representatives to encourage a resolution in the meantime.

Kee, you may be somewhat late looking at my pictures from last year. But, you never know. So when you're driving, if you see opportunity open the door!

Up in the La Sal Mountains.

If the road to Mt Carmel is open, you can possible do parts of Zion, like the Watchman at Sunset, also good at sunrise. That entire road has great scenery if you can find parking places.

Around Moab, you have Dead Horse Point which is a state park and will be open. The road east of Moab is open and has Fisher Towers and Castle Valley. There is also the Potash Road which will be open at least to the Potash plant.

Around Capital Reef, you may be able to get out to The Temple of the Sun and Temple of the Moon but you need a high clearance vehicle. You can also do Factory Butte near Hanksville.

I believe (not certain) that Goblin Valley is a State park.

Zion will probably be a good option.
