I went to Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens yesterday to shoot butterflies. Conditions are somewhat difficult - high temps and high humidity.

3) I know the head is oof, but it's the blue color pattern that attracted me.

6) This is the only "local" b'fly I saw at the exhibit.

11) The B'fly looks good - I like the backlight, but the rest is too bright.

13) I saw this one on a window with bright light behind it. I took a few shots, but didn't realize you can see both sides until I got home...

Good detail and sharpness Ron. A very pleasing set with good comps. The last is pretty neat.

Great work my friend, all kidding aside this is a fabulous set of the big winged bugs. You did an excellent job on the techs and comps, well except for 3

7 is quite unique with the goo on the tongue thingy, I don't think I have ever seen that before. I hope it was going in not out

Lucky #13 is extremely cool Ron, a blend of both wings and such an interesting glow of light within the subject, this is sweet!

#10 is a jaw dropper my friend, all good on this one and the #1 pick overall for me

I've never seen #8 before, that is a great statement of natures creations, awesome camo!

Lots of good looks here, love to see the butterflies and the 'butts' too such as #3

a truly great variety ron. all are colorful and engaging. i really like the first shot with the black and white guy. i like how the striping is on both his wings and his body. the last shot is very cool, its always cool when you find something in the computer that you overlooked in the field. very nice

Thanx Tim. It was a fun shoot despite the heat. I did not notice the goo on the probosces until I got home.

Egads, what a collection! A few I recognize but most are one's I couldn't come close to identifying. The 10th is my fave but 13 is so cool with "both sides now" showing.
It's hard to believe it's fall here in the northeast with the August like weather we're experiencing...most be even warmer a little further south.

Ron,
These are really amazing... I really like the opening shot, as the crop and pattern of the butterfly could not be more perfect. You must be a very patient person. I have seen many of the heliconia species you've shot in the wild and they are not photographer friendly. Set the tripod, focus the camera, check exposure, and... they're gone. This is my experience from the tropics.

Again, great set!
