1,2, 5, 6, 10, 11, and 13 are my favorites of this truly beautiful set. Really a treat to view.

Birdie

Thanx Birdie.. I'm glad you found a few you like...

a truly great variety ron. all are colorful and engaging. i really like the first shot with the black and white guy. i like how the striping is on both his wings and his body. the last shot is very cool, its always cool when you find something in the computer that you overlooked in the field. very nice

dorian

Thanx Dorian. There were more varieties than in previous years, so it was a fun day.

A lot of variety here Ron. seven and eight are my picks just because of the peculiarities of them.

That's a lot of butterflies! Some of the crops are a bit tight for my taste, that's my only nit in an otherwise great series of images! -Mike

Nice post, Ron. Really nice.
Each of these is exceptionally good from A to W, (there's always room for improvement ).
No favorites, I like them all best.
(But I like the last one bestest.)

Egads, what a collection! A few I recognize but most are one's I couldn't come close to identifying. The 10th is my fave but 13 is so cool with "both sides now" showing.
It's hard to believe it's fall here in the northeast with the August like weather we're experiencing...most be even warmer a little further south.
Eric

Thanx Eric. One of the reasons I waited until this time of year is because I knew it would be cooler - not... I am both happy and unhappy with 13. I like seeing both sides, but it's very hard to shoot one of these with the wings open as they normally close them as soon as they land, so I don't have a "normal" shot of the beautiful blue wings.

Ron,
These are really amazing... I really like the opening shot, as the crop and pattern of the butterfly could not be more perfect. You must be a very patient person. I have seen many of the heliconia species you've shot in the wild and they are not photographer friendly. Set the tripod, focus the camera, check exposure, and... they're gone. This is my experience from the tropics.

Again, great set!
bruce

Thanx Bruce. There were several varieties that I never managed to get a shot of because they either never landed, or landed only momentarily. I don't use a tripod for the reasons you state. I do use a heavily diffused flash on a low setting, (shorter flash burst), to freeze them.

These are a delight Ron,

Now have a cold one and relax :-}

Thanx Morris. I'm waaay ahead of you on the cold one.

I'm glad you like my butts - not butt Herb.

Thanx Mike. I normally crop close up shots tighter to show more detail.
