I really like the light in this one Charlie. Here's a case where your use of film really adds a wonderful texture to the image.

I love to see pics from J-Tree... I live there for 2 years, did research throughout the park while in college and met my wife while hiking and playing throughout the area...

a truly nostalgic pic for me!

Wonderful perspective of JTNP Charlie.

It's also a great place for very dark and clear skies at night, so I have taken my telescope out there for some awesome viewing.

yes, this lighting is really nice. this is a place i have yet to reach. the problem is that it is surrounded by so many great birding spots i tend to just bypass it to get to the birds! this shot makes me think twice about this strategy.

Thanks Reef, Bruce, Kirk, Chris, Kenny, Tim, Birdie, Morris, Dorian and Ken.
For many years, Joshua Tree National Monument was known to few- even though it was only 100 miles from L.A.
Then rock climbers discovered it, as did the new world of digital photography.
And it became a national park.
A winter weekday is probably the best time to go nowadays to miss the crowds, and the weather is still good then- getting cold only at night.
Between the wonderful rock formations and the desert plants at that elevation (+- 5,000 feet), it's a great place to camp for a few days.

Backlit is much better than backside, (in most cases...
