I went to Castle Rocks State Park, ID this weekend with some friends for the second annual Idaho Mountain Festival. Here is a shot of my friend Brannon on a really cool 5.12 called Squench. The lighting was pretty great with a really heavy dark overcast. I'll be adding a few more to this thread soon.

Hey David,

I am not totally sure what I feel about this shot. It looks like a fun time for sure. My first impression was the vignetting. I think that is really sucking the life out of this shot. There is just too many dark areas in the frame, no shadow detail to speak of, so the shot ends up drowning in that darkness. I am not sure if the vignetting was intentional, I am guess it was, but I would go back and pull out all the detail. You could do a little vignetting in the upper left sky if you want to help balance the shot. But the other 3 corners should be lightened up. I would then add some contrast to the shot while not letting shadows again go dark.

Just a few thoughts for you.

Jim

David: Really liked the shot as I started to scroll down on my initial view. However, the yellow pole at the bottom (amongst the other equipment on the ground) really pulls my eye off of the climber. Do you have any shots that zoom in a bit on the climber and lose the stuff at the base? Cool looking rock, by the way.

Dave
