Hey Butch,
Interesting work here. It will be quite a transition from portrait shooting to Landscape. I shoot both, and the fun thing is, when I do portraits, I basically get to break all the of the "rules" I have for landscape shots. But with you coming the other way, it's probably going to be a little harder transition. Though by the looks of these, you are well on your way.
With the edits and the lightening up of the shots, is the lighthouse itself. It looks like there is just a bit of haloing around it, and in the white of the lighthouse there are some darker areas, like you used a layer mask that was feathered too large. It's not real bad, but a bit noticable.
As for the cropping. I think you took too much off the bottom. The horizon doesn't have to be exactly at the 1/3rd mark, sometimes it just needs to be off from centered. And then there are times where being centered works best... I would try two different cropping options. For the first, I would crop a little off the top, like halfway from the top to the top of the lighthouse, so maybe crop 1/4 of the sky off. I would try that first because since you lightened it up a bit, I think the foreground underwater rocks add some nice interest to the shot, I would hesitate losing that or much of that. So the other crop option would be to leave the sky alone and to crop off the bottom, but only about half of what you cropped in #3.
As it stands here, #2 is my favorite, but would like to get that lighthouse area touched up. Then play with the crop ideas if you want and see if something balances a bit better for you.
