Hi all,

Here is Jamie the studio manager sitting in for a light test while the model was getting ready.

lighting:
main light 3' softbox c/left
edge light: flash with red gel to rear right of subject
big light in picture: added in PP

Sustain: I think the lighting here is very well done technically, and I like the composition.

Improve: I am not saying this WOULD improve the shot, but I think its an interesting idea... The backlight clearly signifies the headlights of a car behind the driver at night. However, the key light in this shot is TOO well color balanced to be any light source one would likely find at night in the driver's seat of a car. I'd be curious how this would work with a deliberate color cast of a red light, green light, or a more orange glow of a street lamp, or even just cooling the light source to feel more "night" like... The light doesn't look so glaringly out of place that I feel the shot doesn't work as is, but a light source with a cast that hinted at a plausible source might enhance the narrative quality of the shot.

Thanks Evan. Yes, it's a tricky one. I have a red light on the shadow side of his face but it's a bit dim in this shot.

The key light was meant to suggest the light bouncing around inside the car from the strong back light (headlight).

I do have some others (i.e. with different colours) so I'll post them and see what you think.

I wouldn't mind the backlight if it actually looked more light headlights.

Neat concept that could have been stellar with this adjustment.

It is just that it looks like a night shot with lens flare.
