I was in Puerto Rico many years ago and knew of the Coquí frog from that trip. I saw one now and then but usually you just heard them. I had not realized that these tiny...and quite loud frogs had established such a strong population in Hawaii. On a recent quick trip to Hilo I was greeted each evening with the substantial chorus.
Once I determined where and how to find some of these quarter-sized amphibs, I knew I had to get at least one shot. Armed with my 1Ds3 and a 35/1.4 I went looking. I found one cooperative subject that gave me a quick pose. Shot is lit with the LED light on my cell phone. I was pleasantly surprised with the result. Light was a bit on the harsh side, but I got a nice little catchlight This is about a half-frame crop. My attempts the next evening with some softening material for the light was a bust.
