Thanks, Andy and Jason. I'm interested that you both like #2. (Elsewhere #1 has gotten quite a bit of attention.)
While I do the majority of my Sierra shooting in the first and last 2-3 hours of the day, I decided some time ago that since I like the place all day long that it must be possible to make some photographs outside of the early and late hours. There are challenges, primarily the very harsh dynamic contrasts between brilliantly bright sunlit granite and the dark shadows. In fact, that was a challenge in #2 here, which required not only some careful exposure decisions but also some work in post to get it where I wanted it.
About posted image sizes... this is a subject about which there is bound to be some disagreement I'm afraid - there is no answer to that question that will please everyone or satisfy all the contradictory demands. I share relatively small images online - though large enough to look fine on most displays - e.g. laptops, typical desktop monitors, tablets, and smart phones, though they can get lost on 27" photographers' monitors. (Actually, I believe that FM asks that we keep images to 800 pixels on the long side... and these are 600 pixels wide.) But I print large, and I conceive almost all of my photographs as being destined for large prints. I wish I could share print-sized photographs here, but for a variety of reasons that just isn't a practical option. (If you happen to live in the San Francisco Bay Area, there will be several opportunities to see prints in the next month or two.)
Take care,
Dan
