Maybe you can see if there is a setting in the camera about the USB connection; If there is, it should be "mass storage".
I have used the software from Lexar (you can buy online but I think you can get one free if you buy one of their pro cards), it works well with cards (but can be problematic if scanning a large harddrive, if often crash).
Final Data is another software I have used, it works well with harddrives too.
Media Recovery (comes with Transcend) and the one from Sandisk weren't working well for me.
It might sound strange but my experience tells me that it is best to run those software on Windows XP... much more stable than on newer versions of Windows (since many of those software are rather old)
