p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Actor Head Shots With a Friend

Here are a few photos from a photo session with a friend of mines who is also an aspiring actor. We went for a variety of looks but we went for more of a somewhat stern slightly mysterious look in the end.

I think the first 2 are not properly focused. I don't like that 4th one.

I like the first three but not the 4th, but quite a margin.

Thanks for your input.

The first two are properly focused.....they might appear soft but that's due to using iso 1600 with a Canon 40D and the Canon 50 1.8 wide open. I used the technique of Dragging The Focus Ring a long with Machine Gunning The Shutter to get a few tack sharp photos.

I agree with the 4th one, the lower half needs to be darkened to bring focus to the face.

Glad you like the first three....especially coming from someone that is highly experienced such as your self. I agree, after reviewing the fourth photo the lower half needs to be darkened.

Believe it or not the forth photo was actually lit using head lights set to high beam from his car with a reflector to reflect the light to the side of the wall where the head lights were not hitting.

Well...whatever you did, the first two photos in this thread look a little soft around the eyes.

Yeah, if they look soft then they probably need improvement. Maybe it's what you did with the focus ring.

I had the impression that the left eye was soft in the first 3 shots.

#4. I find the strong nose shadow to be the problem, along with the hair blending into the dark background. The bright neck area could be darkened a bit, but I didn't find it a big problem.
