p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Galapagos----Last of the Lava

Two more to finish off this short series about the volcanic Galapagos Islands.
The first shot is a view of Pinnacle Rock as our converted fishing boat came close for a good look.
The second shows the black lava at the toe of a recent lava flow- perhaps within the last few hundred years.
The brownish lava shows a much earlier flow (or flows)- perhaps thousands of years ago.
Over the years some of the minerals within this lava have rusted, and give it color.
Not all lava flows have the right mineral content to show this much rust.
Did you notice the eight other people in the distance? The Ecuadorian guide on the left, and my fellow travelers to the right of him. With the two still on the boat- we were the only ones on the tour. Good thing, because there were only eight small bunks in three tiny cabins.
