Young lady I work with who showed up looking unique one day. We have been talking about doing some photos for a while and I was hoping this would be encouraging for her.

If I never share and get the feedback I will never grow in this genre - so let it rip; your useful C&C is welcome and appreciated.

Nice photos. WHat is unique looking about her?
i like the 1st one and if you could clone out some of the BG stuff it would look better.

Well done. I like #1.

She looks comfortable in both images, but I am less enthusiastic about the leg pose in #2. In any case, good job getting her to pose well.

Both are good from a photographic standpoint (lighting, exposure, focus, DOF). #1 might benefit from a wider or small crop (full body or waist up) but it is a nice shot. #2 is just an awkward pose, perhaps better suited for a younger girl. Also, watch for symmetry in your background. She's a pretty model. Practice more with her if you can.

Are these ambient light shots or were you using strobes?

Thanks for your input; I've been unable to get on for a couple of days.

Sunny, thanks for taking time to comment. I'm not sure why you ask what is unique looking about her but maybe I should expound some. We work together and everyone where I work wears a uniform. We pretty much all look the same. She had been at an appointment this day and stopped by. I seized the opportunity. The difference you see in lighting is that of the background vs. indoors. The outside light was extremely harsh and bright, the indoor was dark. She is standing in the doorway of it all. I think cloning or evening out the background is an excellent idea.

Anil, thank you too. I agree about her legs - it makes mine hurt just looking at the position but I took what I got. Neither of us are experienced at posing. I considered a crop but didn't want to chop her hands off.

Peter these were strictly camera; I have no lighting equipment to speak of other than a 530. I actually made several versions of #1 in regards to cropping/full body/etc. I just wanted to throw a couple up to get past the inhibition stage. You stated exactly what I want her to know - we should do more together and see what comes of it. She seemed to enjoy it, also. Positive criticism may encourage her.

Thanks everyone!

Just bumping this because I was hoping for some thoughts from a few others.

Okay, so you asked. I think she looks very comfortable in front of the camera, looks great. shots look good for natural light indoors. Positioning of the feet looks awkward due to thighs coming toward camera, then the legs going out. The perspective just looks weird.

I'd love to see what you and she could produce if you spend a couple hours dedicated to a photo shoot.

Thanks Ron - appreciate your time and thoughts. Usually we are in surgical scrubs but wen she dresses up I try to get a few shots

#1 is better, it's a nice relaxed portrait. Her left hand bothers me. I might have pulled up her sleeve some. Also, her wrist would look better without such an acute angle bend. She's a natural and since she enjoyed the experience, I'd arrange for more sessions.

Thank you so much - i'm glad that some of my own thoughts are those of others. I think it is much more difficult to pay attention to detail during a shoot than most may think. I'll work on that when i have the opportunities

I agree, paying attention to all details at the time of the shot is something I'm trying to improve upon too. I do like #1... She looks very comfortable in front of the lens, and the light is hitting her well. It helps having an attractive model too.
