Famous for its unafraid wildlife- the islands are also notable for their lava flows.
Like Hawaii, the Galapagos Islands are the tops of volcanoes that poked their heads above the surface of the ocean.
For a variety of reasons, there is much less plant life here than in Hawaii.
These three images illustrate some of that.
#1. Pinnacle Rock from the top of Bartolome Island's low volcano.
#2. Looking at Bartolome from a neighboring island.
#3. A typical lava flow.

All 3 are quite nice Charlie. This is on my bucket list for sure! My favorite is #3 - love the composition and texture. Just wish you had a better sky.

Thanks, Dave.
There are many wonderful destinations on our blue marble- and the Galapagos is definitely one of them. Being able to approach exotic animals really closely makes the Galapagos unique, though.
Especially for photographers and lovers of wildlife. The longest lens I had with me was a 70-210mm and I seldom racked it out all the way. I was more concerned about stepping on animals than I was about needing a longer lens .
The climate and weather of the islands is somewhat befuddling; they sit right on the Equator (500 miles offshore from the continent) - yet the cold Humboldt Current comes up the west coast of South America from the Antarctic Ocean.
The cloudiness didn't bother me, though, because it kept things a bit cooler than a blazing sun would have caused it to be.
